This phenomenon is not new to Alberta, but the sheer number of cases being reported this summer has some parents taking their children to hospital.

Skeeter syndrome, characterized by severe inflammatory reactions to mosquito bites, affects mostly young people, according to Dr. Mariam Hanna, a pediatric allergist and clinical immunologist at McMaster University.
